MEET THE DESIGNER
Woven Memories studio is run by Gina Nadal, a Catalan designer, based in Manchester since 2015. Gina’s connection to weaving can be traced back to 2010 during her BA in Arts & Design, in Barcelona. Through her MA and PhD at Manchester School of Art, she specialised in the historical and technical connections between weaving and digital coding. After fulfilling her academic studies, she embraced the entrepreneurial journey and started Woven Memories in 2022.
BEHIND THE TEXTILE
Every Woven Memories creation is unique, made using locally sourced yarns of the highest quality such as merino, lambswool and cashmere. At the heart of our ethos is the drive to create products that will last and be cherished by the owner. The ability for the customer to be involved in the design process strengthens this bond between owner and textile.
OUR PROCESS
IN-HOUSE DESIGN
When designing our textiles, we aim to weave our products with as much recovered deadstock yarn destined for landfill as possible. Through this small action, we reduce, recycle, and repurpose high quality yarn and help the planet to breath a little bit better. We are constantly learning how to be more sustainable and applying new techniques to make our products better.
Our inspiration comes from nature as well as individuals who have had a personal and/or professional impact to us. We test the yarns, colour palettes, and weave structures to design textile patterns that work together as a collection or individually.
YOUR DESIGN
The textile’s pattern is created by encoding messages using Woven Memories’ online tool. The online tool translates letters into binary code to generate the pattern and allows the customer to personalise the cushion further. The product is ideal as a gift to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas. Cushions with premade messages, quotes or poetry that mark annual celebrations, holidays or one-off occasions can also be made for immediate sale.
